Welcome to the Diocese of Alabama

The Diocese of Alabama is a community of 90 congregations with more than 30,000 members within the Episcopal Church in the United States and the Anglican Communion. Our congregations, worshipping communities, campus ministry centers, and outreach ministries are located throughout central and northern Alabama. We invite you to visit us, join us in worship, and to grow with us in our relationship with God through Jesus Christ.  A directory of our churches is available here, and a map of our church locations is available here.

The Diocesan office (Carpenter House) is situated at 521 North 20th Street in downtown Birmingham (next to the Cathedral Church of the Advent).  It houses the offices and conference facility for the bishops and their staff serving the Diocese of Alabama.  Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Our phone numver is 205-715-2060 and our Fax number is 205-715-2066.

Carpenter House is named for Bishop Charles Carpenter, the 6th Bishop of Alabama, serving as diocesan bishop from 1938 to 1968. His grave site is in the Cathedral Garden next to Carpenter House.

The Bishops' Chapel is situated on the first floor of Carpenter House and is open to all during the normal office hours. Members of the staff participate in Morning Prayer every Tuesday at 8:30am. A time of Centering Prayer is offered from 7:30am to 8:30am every Wednesday.

A Diocesan Resource Center is located on the second floor of Carpenter House. The Resource Center contains written and video materials on Christian Formation for Adults and Children, Worship/Music, Church Architecture and a special listing of Alban Institute titles.

Diocesan Archives are located on the second floor. The Archives contain historical documents on parishes and diocesan events. Access is by appointment only. Contact the Rev. Rob Morpeth, Diocesan Administrator for more information.
